I can’t believe no one’s written about this yet, but it appears there’s already a new business ready to open in the old Blimpie’s location. (LaFu, Lafayette and S. Elliott. And while I’m at it, I am NOT using the term LaFu to describe a trendy mini-nabe. I KNOW this is Fort Greene. But the streets here DO create an interesting triangle and a lot has been going on there. So I am using “LaFu” to denote the location. I would not say this is “in” LaFu, but rather “AT” LaFu, before more people get annoyed. Just saying.)
So, anyway, there’s a new place that looks kind of like a bakery (a chain bakery??)

I’m confused by this. Since there’s a sign inside that says “pan plus,” I assumed “pan” referred to the Spanish word for bread, which would make sense if the sign outside said “PAN & MAS (bread & more),” but it says PAM & MAS.
What is going on here?

I’ve never opened a retail business and I don’t claim to know what ‘works’, but somehow I feel that this place is a failure before it even opens it’s doors. It looks like a neighborhood bakery that’s TRYING to look like a chain, and that is depressing at best.
Yeah, I have to agree– the quality doesn’t look like it’s there. I’d like to be proven wrong, though. Ft. Greene could use a nice bakery.
yes but how’s the bread?
Pan & Plus IS a franchise that supplies ready-made baked goods & signage. Pam & Plus looks to me as though they are an independent business, contracted to sell Pan & Plus goods. A little confusing, but only because of the similarity of the names.
this place looks like another bust. too bad, this spot seems to be plagued with chain garbage. who knows though, maybe the baked goods will be tasty,
y’all need to get whatever nastly bluffin you ate out of your head and give these folks a shot.
Has anyone actually seen this place open? I have my fingers crossed that it’s actually some kind of Carribean bakery: note the parrot and the tropical forest on the signage.
I have yet to see it actually open. Their signs really seem to be pimping bagels, which is an odd choice considering they are across the street from La Bagel Delight (lots of muffins and baked goods over there too).
i hate to say this, but it sounds like someone who wasnt a native english speaker called up the neon company to order the sign and tried to say they wanted a sign that read “pan and plus”, but the sign maker heard “pam and mas”
most likely this happened. They sell Pan & Plus but they can’t name themselves that so they tried for Pan & Mas, (bread & more) but somewhere along the line Pam got made. I see this ALL the time in ny. Bduget sign companies are not the way to go….
