Have you noticed that lately the BQE running over Park seems to be…leaking? Water is ALWAYS pouring off of it and onto Park, even when it’s not raining. Where is this water coming from? Maybe it’s best not to know.
Also, this free parking under the overpass seems weird to me. Obviously people are parking here, and it seems it’s allowed. But it seems like parking there screams, “Steal/damage my car!” Anyone park there? The arrangement seems very intriguing.

An engineer friend told me the water is constantly poured over drying concrete or asphalt as a way of making it stronger during the settling process. Not sure how that works but I’ll go with it.
OK, I could see that. BUT, has it been drying for months now?
They are putting many layers of concrete up there, and they are using a water-curing process. But it is taking forever.
i use it to get a convenient fly by car wash. it’s really quite pleasant.
It is quite refreshing as I wait for the B61 on Washington and Park.
The concrete curing is correct…. does anyone North of the BQE notice if there is less car noise from the concrete put up on that side? I hope it does reduce noise
it’s not just for the concrete drying…whenever there is construction and jackhammers are digging up the ground, the law is that they are supposed to keep it wet so the dust and debris does NOT end up in your lungs!
oooohhh is it supposed to reduce noise? I’m pretty excited about that considering that my window is practically next to the BQE! I also get the free quicky car wash when driving under the water but have a huge concern about the garbage that is piling up under the BQE where the cars park. It is absolutely horrifying! I’ve called the Sanitation Dep’t but it doesn’t seem like my message got anything done.
It really is gross.
We live right along the BQE on Park over by Adelphi and the noise is alot better (been there since October 2006). Honestly we get more noise from Park Avenue than the highway. put that water dripping off has created huge puddles where mosquitos have been thriving.
I thought the water was supposed to help cool the concrete as sets. Will this project EVER be completed?
