in the comments section for the post on the upcoming restaurant on greene + waverly, a reader asked:
Have you checked out the new ‘organic market’ that just started to get all dolled up on Lexington btwn Grand and Classon? Crazy conversion… but needed.
and i was all ready to head down there this morning and check it out….until i went on the local parents’ listserve. there was a discussion of the market going on there, and the truth came out: it isn’t an organic market at all, but a set for a steve martin movie that’s being filmed here.
bummer! on the plus side, if you like steve martin, they should be doing more filming this week….

We’ve been faked out by two instant movie “stores” before. One was a flower shop which was built and dismantled in a day on 7th ave for some Wayan brothers movie. The other was the fake bookstore for that Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks flick.
such a cruel fakeout!
Which building are they using? None of them really has a front that even remotely resembles a store…
Oh man that organic market totally had me going!
Actually I believe it is still for the Tina Fey movie they were filming there a few weeks ago. In the scene I watched them shoot she was holding a press conference for her new market in front of what was supposed to be an old warehouse (did anybody even notice the “New England Biscuit Company” painted across the top?) . I believe they are coming back to shoot the follow-up scenes.
Remember when Spielberg totally reverted parts of Dekalb and Clermont back to the 70s for his Munich flick a few years back? That is why movie tickets cost $11.
True, Kath, but it sure was cool to see all of those 1970s buses and cars on the street! Not to mention all the extras in leisure suits.
Yep, Alex, that’s right. It’s the set for a new film called Baby Mama… starring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

I think the market’s name is strangely hilarious if only fictitious: Round Earth Organic Market.
