It seems like everywhere you look in the neighborhood now there’s a new cafe/coffee shop. But that’s cool with me as long as they’re offering good service and tasty treats/coffee.
The latest is Bittersweet, in former home of Location-Location-Location (which has moved to S. Portland by Pequena in a very cute space), offers simple decor close to the park (this is key when walking home with the dog, right around the time you realize you need a coffee, badly). They also sell pastries from Balthazar. I’ve only stopped in once (the day I left for Poland), but damn, the berry scone I had was great. I also saw Keri Russell walk past me on the street that day, as an aside. A friend tells me the iced Americano is THE best coffee in the ‘hood right now.

Per the Village Voice, they also offer some interesting ice cream flavors as well…

that wasn’t locationlocloc… it was TB Realty.
Also new in the neighborhood, there’s a new Thai restaurant in the old Pillow space. Signage is already up, so they should be opening soon. It’s only a couple of blocks away from Myrtle Thai – i wonder how the two will compare.
The ice cream at Bittersweet is out of this world! They make it fresh on the premises. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Waiting on info now re: the new thai place. Will do a post soon (as well as on Tamboril).
You write all this…” in former home of Location-Location-Location (which has moved to S. Portland by Pequena in a very cute space), close to the park” yet do not give the address.
This is not the first nor last time you write useless info but not pertinent items.
Why do you not list the addresses for the countless places you write about. Thats the proper way to shill.
cute counter help, too. perfect for coffee shop crushes, so bittersweet.
Um, okay, SHILLEE – deep breath, sweetie. Let’s not abuse Lesterhead, a local Treasure. She’s one of the greatest things we’ve got goin’ these days. Maybe you need to walk around a little more and familiarize yourself with the neighborhood? It is summer, after all.
Or maybe SHILLEE can use a little grace and tact (and a question mark) next time s/he’s requesting more information. The dig was completely unnecessary.
I agree, lay off Goddess Lesterhead. And also try the Jamaican Grape Nuts ice cream at Bittersweet. Delish.
Sounds tasty. I got super excited and then let down though because I thought it was opening next to Pequena – that area has a serious lack of coffee/pastry shops that are open in the evening, which always bums me out on my way to BAM, since I often want a coffee to ensure I won’t fall asleep during a flik.
I love the coffee across the Street at Urban Spring. The iced coffee is cold brewed and the beans are roasted in Brooklyn.
And before you call me a shill… Yes, I know the guy who roasts the beans… still, it’s really good coffee.
I’m sure you are so busy too with your time that it would be too much for you to do a google search and find the address that way. Also, it’s assumed that since you are reading a blog that canvases(sp?) oh say about an area of about 1 square mile in size, that it wouldn’t be too difficult to know offhand where something would be.
Now, please go back to creating a cure for cure, doing stem cell research, and testing products on puppies.
sorry, I meant to say you were creating a cure for cancer.
I had a rough night!
OR Shillee could look at the bottom of the entry, where Bittersweet’s address is provided, as it is in most of the entries about businesses and restaurants.
I actually added the addy after Shillee’s comment – will be more mindful of providing that info going forward!
Lesterhead- I love your proactive nature, by adding the address, and choosing not to have a battle with others!!
Thank goodness for the little signage outside because one can easily miss this spot.
Stopped by tonight and loved the bittersweet chocolate ice cream. Awesome texture and absolutely delicious….
Not sold on the iced cafe americano; I have a thing for Tillie’s iced coffee. Can’t wait to try the ice cream, although my waist really doesn’t need it…
