A friend and CHB reader was kind enough to snap some shots of Frank White outside and through the window on Atlantic last week:

Our pal Brownstoner’s made note of this place, too. Personally, I think it looks pretty cool. Is it open yet?

the flocked wallpaper and patterned armchairs remind me of the inside of molly browns. is it the same owners?
I think you mean Maggie Browns.
that’s right… maggie browns. thanks.
I wouldn’t be surprised, they own everything in the neighborhood.
1) Moe’s
2) Maggie Brown’s
3) Pequena
4) Olea
I hate to say it but the only decent thing on all those four menus is the Turkish Breakfast at Olea which I get religiously on the weekends. Moe’s makes a good drink too. But Pequena is gross.
The service is spotty, but I’m usually satisfied with a meal from Pequena.
I think they might be opening the spot on Fulton that use to be Bodegas…talk about a take over!
different owner. frank white is owned by a young female bed-stuy resident who has a hand in music, fashion, pr and marketing.
Hey- I like Pequena! Their quesadillas are delicious; the tortillas are unbeatable. Haven’t been back to Maggie Brown’s in over a year- the food was too mediocre to tolerate the poor service. And Olea has a devoted following, but I’ve been there twice and just never felt the need to go back.
Here’s the scoop—Frank White opens today, Thursday 9/13 + daily 7a-3p for coffee, morning treats, fresh squeezed juice
evenings for private events
super cute & comfy with outdoor garden deck!
Went in this morning. The coffee was good but not as good as outpost or as bad as Swillies. The baked goods are two for one at the moment and were pretty standard. Apparently they have wi-fi but i got mine to go. Overall I’ll probably still go to Outpost when I want to hang out but it’s nice to have decent coffee closer to my apartment. The owner and the other woman working were both very nice. Hopefully word of mouth will counteract the lack of foot traffic.
What and where is Outpost & Swillies? I have heard of neither. I am sooo Dekalb/Myrtle centric I feel like anything south of Lafayette might as well be Guam.
Outpost is on Fulton btw Downing and Irving and is my favorite coffee place in or around the neighborhood. Swillies is my less than affectionate nickname for Tillies which for all its good points has worse coffee than the bodega on the corner.
Yeah, Schwillie’s is a good and apt nickname for Tillie’s. Their location makes them a focal point for the neighborhood, a hot meeting spot, etc., but every time I’m walking for the train and decide to make a stop, I’m always sorry (again) for trying to drink their coffee.
Just awful. Ugh! Location is everything for Schwillie’s.
so i got the scoop on the name from the owners…. frank white’s character in the movie ‘king of new york was a gangster who wanted to turn good after his release from prison (his big plan was to open a hospital in the hood)….and yes biggie called himself frank white’ cuz he considered himself the RAP ‘king of new york’!
i went into the space today and tried one of their vege-chicken sandwiches + smoothie. it was tasty. i was happy because its hard to find healthy fast food in this area. they also rent he space for private events!
frank white gets my thumbs up!
