A few weekends ago, I ran into Josie Smith-Malave, one-time Top Chef contestant and Clinton Hill regular, standing outside the in-the-works restaurant opening in the former bodega space on Waverly and Greene. She told me the space was slated to serve “global comfort food,” and was aiming to be “a real neighborhood place – one you’ll eat at three times a week.”
Since then, there’s been a lot of activity. The newspapers are off the windows now, and I spotted some stuff being moved in on Friday night:

I’m going to do a little interview with Josie in early October to coordinate with the restaurant’s opening. Stay tuned…

Hmm. What kinds of foods are “global” comfort foods? Do you know if she’ll be able to have liquor (being across the street from a school and all)?
hooray! I have been dying to know what was happening there after seeing all the activity. And ever since Bodegas closed, I’ve been looking for a casual but good place that I can make a regular stop. I’m all for “global” cuisine as long as it’s good! lol
Hope they at least have a beer/wine license though.
I read that Josie was attacked and run out of a bar out on Long Island by people shouting homophobic slurs… How’s she doing after that?
Wanted to let you know that a new wine shop opened up on Myrtle between Adelphi and Carlton. They had an opening party yesturday. Wine shop is huge and looks very cool. Owners were very nice. Didn’t buy any wine though…
I just noticed that the Japanese restaurant on Greene and Fulton has a new awning and is called One Greene. Is it still the same establishment or a new place and different cuisine. As I was taking the baby to the doctor, didnt stop to inquire. Anyone know for sure?

Oops. anyone know what happened to the beauty bar on Fulton St and Clinton? It has been closed when I have gone by.
R, I think its called Gnarly Vines.
Bodegas was on Clinton and Fulton, this place was a Deli.
Gnarley is a new wine store at 350 Myrtle avenue.
japanese restaurant @ 7 corners has always been named one greene, they just got a (nice) new awning.
what about places to eat EAST of washington? any news there?
other thn il torcio and tamboril on myrtle ave…those`are`the only 2 new establishments.hope that is east of washington…lol
KUSH, on Putnam between Cambridge Place and Grand, is excellent. So is Joloff Restaurant on Fulton and Locanda on Gates.
Those are all east of Washington.
looks like they will have an alcohol license as there’s a bar in there.
Walked the dog past the place tonight (10/17), looks like they’re not quite ready to go yet, but not far off, maybe this weekend. For those wondering about a liquor license, I did see boxes from what looked like a liquor distributor being unloaded (southern liquor something or other).
