Gossip Roundup

Received this tip-filled email from a reader:

I was at a town hall meeting with tish james and heard from
the pres. of pratt that they have taken over the kentucky fried
chicken spot!!! It is going to be a 6 (or more) story building with
retail on the ground floor. The space is actually still owned by the
person that owned the KFC, but pratt worked some deal where they get
the land and the owner gets the building… Don’t quote me on that,
I’m super tired and I definitely didn’t give them enough
attention. : ) The other bit of gossip on this front is that the
owner wants some kind of pharmacy on the ground floor. Although I
really hate box store pharmacies, this is something that area does need.

More gossip…

The bodega on the corner of grand and clifton is interviewing chefs
for a brick oven pizza joint! I will probably be close to a year till
they open, but worth the wait.

Terri, of Choice fame, is on hold with the spot on greene bec. of
permit issues. They hope to open in the next few months.

The 6-story building sounds promising and not too tall. It IS amazing how much unused space exists on Myrtle (more on this later).

Haunted House 10/31

halloween attacks!

Location: 313 Clinton Ave (bt DeKalb and Lafayette)

This year’s theme: Halloween Attacks!  Make sure to stop by this evening during the Halloween Walk to check out the annual performance.  It’s going to be good, and also involve nearby houses.  It’s slated to be the best production yet!

New Building on Park?! WTF?

what IS this?A few weeks ago, I came across a bizarre new building on Park by the BQE for sale by Corcoran. It looked to me like a building full of condo apartments, but the Corcoran listing I found said it was a legal 2-family listed at $979k.
weird condos?

I procrastinated in posting this, and now the Corcoran link isn’t working, and I can’t find anything about it online!  What happened, and what IS this place?

The Great PUPkin: Recap

This year’s PUPkin was great! I was fortunate enough to be a judge, which meant that for the first time ever I was able to see ALL the costumes. Lots of great homemade costumes this year. I wasn’t able to take as many photos as I’d have liked, but here are a few of my favorites:

top dog

li'l devil

albus dumbledor

second prize

First: Astronaut (This is the same guy who did the flying monkey in 2005. How he got his dog to wear the plastic bubble on his head is the question of the century.)

Second: The Three Tenors (Three gigantic slow-moving dogs dressed in human tuxedos with a banner and an entourage)

Third: Nipper, the RCA Dog (Complete with gramophone that was actually playing music on the dog’s back)

Honorable Mentions: Albus Dumbledore (wonderful homemade wig and spectacles made of tin foil), Sunflower (TINY Chi dressed as a sunflower bigger than her head, made out of recycled materials), and Gilligan (complete with red shirt, life vest and sailor hat).

Other favorites of mine (and close finishers) included Carol Burnette dressed as Scarlet O’Hara, a tiny Chi dressed as a devil (his ears were his horns, pictured above!), a Frenchie in pajamas and slippers, and a Boston Terrier as the G train.

Thanks to my fellow judges, Ellie Balk and Carl Graur!

RePOP is proud to present their first photography exhibition featuring the electrifying work of two Brooklyn based photographers, Elizabeth Lambert and Lucia Cousins.
