Check out this building on Quincy between Downing and Classon across from the huge Salvation Army:

Condos? Man, this block is going to change fast.
Oh, wait- here‘s some info on Brownstoner (posted while I was in Poland). Looks like affordable housing…

You know I’m all for affordable housing but I’m growing tired of the working middle class (those of use who make around $40) having no options in this city. There are tons of mitchel lamas and other affordable buildings which we don’t qualify for which means we get pushed out of the city just the same. Oh well. I’m happy for whoever ends up in these apts, looks like they’re going to be nice:
“Quincy 15 will have 48 rental units for households earning below $26,588, with 9 units for formerly-homeless households earning below $15,938. The apartments are generously sized, at 450 sq. ft. for the 5 studio apartments and 775 sq. ft. for the 43 one-bedroom apartments.”
The hookers at the intersection of Downing and Quincy will be happy. Not only will their clients be nearby, but they will have an apt to do the deed in. Maybe less used condoms all over the street.
Does anyone remember reading or hearing that this building was going to be a private school? As a resident of Downing St. my initial feelings are not good about this bulding.
“OOOOOO” Your comment implies nonsense, maybe this bulding will bring enough eyes and ears to make prostitution on this corner extremeley difficult, very recently I had the unpleasant experience of looking out of my window down at street level only to find a male driver receiving a…. at 7:00am on a schoolday parked adjacent to the schoolyard- jeeze!
I hadn’t heard about a private school. This is old news, announced maybe late last year or early this year. It is the affordable housing component of a downtown luxury condo tower. See the brownstoner link with the links to January 2007 articles…
Thank you LP for pointing out “old News’ and for repeating once again things off of brownstoner(which I had already read) and did I mention that I live down the block and had heard of the construction and possibilities before this blog was even started.
Anyways I’m still curious if anyone had heard of a charter school somewhere on Quincy in the future?
No, as I said, I haven’t heard about a charter school on Quincy. Sorry the old news comment offended you. It wasn’t meant too. It’s just that this was talked about quite a lot already.
Effectively your getting a PACC run project building.
oops, “you’re”, not “your.
I don’t hold high hopes for this building. Let’s hope it turns out ok.
There was supposed to be a new private school just a block or two into Bed Stuy. Can’t remember where, but I thought it would be near Fulton, maybe close to Classon. Saw it on Brownstoner a while back (sorry I read about it there Polygraf
)
Ironic? Brownstoner is where I initially heard of the possible private/charter school on Quincy also. Splelling aside, I rest assured that Quincy will be a very interesting block.
Cool site, love the info.
what about the people who makes $50G?? do we count, we love our neighborhood n want to stay. Can we ($50G) family obtain affordable housing??
