Myrtle has become a real hotspot in Brooklyn, but it’s still home to a surprising number of shuttered storefronts. Some of the more interesting places include:
This place was horribly overpriced when it was open, and often opened late (grrr). It’s a pretty large storefront. What should go in here?
And this place, too:
The black spray paint over the awning is fantastic. Looks like it was once a seafood restaurant.
I’m trying to enjoy these mysterious spaces while they last.

We need art in Clinton Hill. I don’t want our hood to be another Williamsburg, but a gallery would be great; there are a few here & there, but how wonderful to have it right on Myrtle Avenue.
There’s the Clinton Hill Art Gallery on Myrtle, down by Classon. I’ve never actually been in it, though, and it seems to be more concerned with framing services than anything else.
Does anyone have any into on what might be going in to the retail space in 609 Myrtle, the new building on Myrtle and Kent? People seem to finally moving in there, but there doesn’t seem to be any indication on if the retail space on the ground floor is going to be used any time soon.
The very cool woman who owns the Clinton Hill art gallery on Myrtle also owns a real gallery on Vanderbilt just south of Myrtle — right across the street from Luz. And her shop on Myrtle is primarily a framing store.
I’d love a bookstore in the neighborhood, more retail in general
more retail –
cheese shop
bakery (like sullivan st. bakery/daisy may/sarabeths)
butcher
bookstore
24 hr diner
a additional hope & anchor
BTW that was Rancher’s Crab Inn
Decent seafood
A good bakery would be great, as would a cheese shop, butcher, or really great deli that combined both.
would love a bagel shop.
Meepa: Bagel Shop? I’m confused. What part of Myrtle would you like one?
I WANT A CHEESE SHOP (like Stinky on Smith Street!)
Deli that sells flowers!!
Bagel shop? We’ve got Bergen Bagels, and it’s great. There’s another one down by the park on Dekalb – Bagel World, maybe? I’ve never been in but always pass it on my way to Thirst.
I didn’t know CIS closed. The owner was such a nice guy :/
I agree, the guy who owned CIS was super cool, and it’s a pity he’s gone. The place was overpriced, but I’d try and use it over other places because I knew I’d have a great experience.
There is a new bakery right off myrtle on Vanderbilt- Krumbs
I had good cupcakes from then a few weeks ago
CIS was insultingly expensive – like double the prices it should have been. I will not miss that place.
oooh Krumbs is open now? Any other reviews?
I read in Time Out NY that Greene Grape has a new provisions shop opening next door with cheese and bits!
24 hour diner.
definitely a bookstore or a 24 hour diner…. its close enough to pratt that i’m sure it would get a ton of business from students.
maybe like a store that sells movies and cd’s and what not, i know we have blockbuster, but it would be nice for a store to open up with either i larger selection or some less mainstream movies.
