From the Greene Grape:
Fresh Fish and Meat . . . Finally.
If you’ve walked by the new Greene Grape Provisions store at the corner of
South Portland and Fulton, you know we are serving fresh coffee and espresso
drinks and are getting daily deliveries of fresh pastries from Balthazar and
bread from Il Forno. We also have pantry essentials like olive oil, vinegar,
spices and dry pasta.
As of January 22, our fish and meat counters are open. The
fish counter will have organic Atlantic salmon, shrimp, scallops, swordfish,
yellowfin tuna, escolar, tilapia, arctic char, mahi-mahi and skate, all from
Wild Edibles. Rob our fishmonger will be available to advise on your fish
purchase, suggest preparations and clean your shrimp. The meat counter will
feature filet mignon, New York strip steak, rib eye steak, organic Bell &
Evans chicken, pork chops, ground meat and sausages. Come and meet Paul the
butcher and let him know what else you’d like to see.
At the wine store we’ll be pouring a fish-friendly white AND red and you’ll
receive 5% off your wine purchase by bringing in a Provisions receipt for
$10 or more.
We apologize for the slow roll-out but we want to perfect each aspect of the
store one department at a time. You’ve waited this long, Fort Greene and
Clinton Hill, and you deserve the best. We have a lot more service-oriented
surprises in store so hang in there . . . we promise it will be worth it.
Cheers!

I popped in there last night. True, the selection is limited at this point, but what they had looked heavenly. Will most certainly be back- I only wish they were further up Fulton on the more under-served portion. Whatever- it looks as if it’ll be worth the extra walk! Good luck to them.
WOW!!!!
I’m so going there tonight!!!!
YAY!
This looks fantastic, we’ll be down as soon as we can.
THANK YOU for a l o n g overdue need in the neighborhood. Many bear hugs from me.
looks amazing. can’t wait to stop by.
can anyone tell me what prices are like? Reasonable or totally overpriced?
This does look Wonderful ! One minor detail I want to ask…organic salmon (which sounds healthy) isn’t the same as wild salmon (which is suphosed to be the healthiest choice) organic salmon are farm raised,No ? I know, I’m knit picking but understand the differnce.
Thanks for listening.
Bravo! Can’t wait to stop by!
Organic salmon is not the same as wild salmon. Organic salmon is usually farm raised but with “organic food” — High environmental costs of farming salmon include water pollution, spread of diseases to wild fish populations, high content of fish in feed, and overuse of antibiotics. In addition to Atlantic Salmon, farmers are now raising Chinook and Coho Salmon. Wild Atlantic Salmon in the U.S. are endangered. Farms supply all the Atlantic Salmon sold in the U.S.
I stopped in this morning to check it out. They are still completing the shelving, but honestly they have the same organic/ “specialty” products that most of the grocery stores in the area carry, albeit at even higher prices. $3.59 for organic canned tomatoes and $4.99 for a green&blacks chocolate bar. I’ll go there for fresh fish but otherwise keep biking to the Met on Vanderbilt, which has great selection at a fair price.
Hi Kate our price on green and black’s is 3.79 and our diced tomatoes are 3.19 for 28 ounces. We had a customer just last night who paid 2.59 for 14 ounces down the street. If your receipt says different prices than these then there was an error at checkout. Please bring your receipt in and we will correct it. Thanks for checking us out.
I wonder if i’ll get greeted with tons of attitude and treated like a piece of sh*t just like I do when I used to go into the Green Grape? Or is that supposed to be expected because they need to keep up the attitude when trying to sue other people from opening up competitive shops like they did with Olivino and other wine shops in the area?
i don’t go to greene grapes wine store bc of the poor quality of service i recieved numerous times. i never got any help with my wine choices and ended up spending about $30 on an btl of italian red that my guest didn’t even enjoy.(never got hellos/ thank yous either. never!) thankfully now there are many other wine stores in the neighborhood; gnarlys and olivino are my fav. i hope that the provision store will have more helpful staff on. i will give them a try.
I have never had anything but good experiences and lack of pretension at Greene Grape. It’s my favorite wine store in FG.
I have only been into the Greene Grape wine shop once (I frequent Olivino since it is closer to our house), but that experience, plus my recent experiences in Provisions have all been extremely pleasant. I have been in Provisions 2 times since it opened — the first time I purchased some fresh seafood and I stopped in this morning for cappuccino and pain au chocolate. Everything was superb. While I was in there a customer was busy discussing several suggestions she had for inventory with a Provisions employee. The Provisions employee said that they are very eager to receive those types of recommendations so that they can meet the needs of the clientele. I am tired of seeing postings on this blog from people complaining about what is lacking in the neighborhood in terms of specialty shops, and then wasting all sorts of time bad-mouthing the ones that eventually open, as opposed to engaging in constructive conversations (either on the blog or in person with the owners). You had a bad experience at the Green Grape wine shop, we get it, but move on already. Certainly no one is forcing you to shop there or at Provisions. If you think you could do a better job then the existing purveyors, then put your money where your mouth is and open a shop yourself. Opinions being what they are on this blog, I bet there will be people who don’t like how you run your shop, either.
I have never had a prob at GG and they are perfectly delightful at provisions the 2 times I have been. I am thrilled and have bought fish on both visits and it has been fresh and delish. I can’t wait for the store to get filled out though and I am sure it will. The freshwater trout is divine as was the organic salmon.
Wow… That guy behind the counter is so hot!
