The bakery at 154 Vanderbilt (between Willoughby and Myrtle) is now open! The name’s not yet official, since a bakery called “Crumbs” is protesting to the establishment’s use of the name “Krumbs.” (This explains the temporary spray paint job over the old “Frosted Moon” sign.)
Owner Adrienne Braxton has been a Clinton Hill resident for years. She’s become famous for her peach cobbler, often sold on the street, but always longed for her own storefront.
I picked up some mini carrot cakes ($2.50 each) for a dinner party, and they were a huge hit. Braxton’s goods are mostly of the dessert variety (ie. no fresh bread), but if you need a fox box of fresh, buttery goodness, this is your place.
Looks nice inside, and I’m looking forward to see how the place develops!

it’s really funny because, i saw a woman with a box of cupcakes on the train today, from the place called Crumbs. i thought to myself what a clever name for a bakery.
What’s a fox of buttery goodness?
That carrot cake was divine.
yep “a fox of fresh, buttery goodness” sounds kind of hot actually….
I will check it out. I really think it would be great if she had fresh bread, even if she got it delivered daily… that’s something I really think the ‘hood needs.
Although it’s not officially in the hood both the new Greene Grape Provisions and the Little Piggy Market (Smoke Joint’s people) have fresh bread, although Little Piggy has a more limited supply I think. The lil pig (as the sign says) also has for my money the best sandwiches in the hood made on said fresh bread.
Now we need a good butcher.
I asked about fresh bread and the owner said it will eventually be brought into the mix of products. Tasty chocolate chip cookies.
Evan: Thanks for the head’s up. I’m aware of those locations, and think it’s great for Ft. Greene, but I never go by those places on a daily basis. I usually am between Clinton and Hall, so something in that proximity is preferable. Thanks, though.
The Carrot Cake is divine. Very nice people are running this place. This just reminded me to stop by there after work tonight! Hope they have fresh bread soon too. Anyone know if they do catering?
they have PIES!!!
Chocolate banana cake thingy was delicious!
Peach cobbler wasnt bad either. I’m glad that they’re here.
I tried a couple of things and everything was delicious. prices are great! very friendly service!
We went in about a week after it opened, and Adrienne said she would be open to baking bread if there was a demand for it… I can’t remember what we had, but it was delicious. As far as other bread options in the Neighborhood, there’s also the bread stand at the Farmer’s Market. And, in response to evan’s post, Greene Grape’s Provisions store is now selling meat along with other moderately priced goodies. I don’t know if it’s technically a butcher though.
I went in there one morning last week when I was going to be waiting at the bus stop right out front, and they didn’t have the coffee set up yet.. she said they wouldn’t for another week, which I thought was a little odd. Also, all of the baked goods were tightly wrapped in cellophane inside the cases, which not only made them look unappealing, but was kind of gross to eat out of once I left. I always feel like putting plastic wrap around something makes it kind of taste like plastic wrap. Especially freshed baked things. Anyways, a weird choice, but they had so recently opened I should probably give them another chance. The scone was decent.
Just Saw the documentary on her on Youtube called Krumbs. Nice story glad she finally had her bakery. Congrats!

I was so inspired by Adrienne when I accidentally came across her story. Next time I visit Brooklyn, I will not leave until I find her and try her peach cobbler. All the best to you Adrienne!
Do they sell rolls, Italian bread and baguettes?
It’s hard to find any place that sells these NYC staples.
Adrienne! congrats on your dreams coming true! Hoping you read this and contact me- find me on facebook through Lisa. Would love to stop by and try something from your bakery- too bad i live on the other side of the country! best of luck to you and hope to talk/email/facebook with you soon!
Adrienne,I hope your reading these blogs.Loved the doc channel story.I found her to be very giving (daughter and grandson)and honest, not so easy for most people in her situation to maintain this attribite, that’s what really impressed me. I will make a special trip from queens,ny (and many more) just to visit and purchase goods and meet Adrienne, in order to personally congratulate and encourage her. And, also to recommend a few ideas, ie: put a few small tables and chairs outside, add soft easy listening music, great that she has coffee already, what about herbal tea, leave flyers at specialty stores for catering, etc., and maybe deliver to local businesses, especially
in the morning. Peace and Blessings to you and yours Adrienne. P.S.We REALLY need to patronize her business, perhaps another Dunkin Donuts in the future. I pray for nothing but success for her. Part of her story I can relate to deeply, me being a single mother/grandma and having a very, very hard time earlier in life. Again, Peace and Blessings Adrienne, and best wishes for great success.
Krumbs was an inspirational documentary that left me wondering where the story ends. Hopefully Adrienne is finding the success she deserves for her devotion and perseverance- to the business and to her family.
I too live in Queens and would like to make the journey to support the bakery and to meet Adrienne. Any word on whether it has a new name yet? Or still goes by Krumbs?
Just saw the documentary about Adrienne. I was in awe and inspired to see her tenacity, fortitude and perserverance through…to get that bakery she ‘dreamed’ of. I want to know how she’s is doing? Does she need anything? I may call the number posted at the end of the doc.
