I stopped into NYC Pet on Myrtle last weekend (at Washington), and was tre impressed with their stock!
First, they have a really nice selection of cat posts. As someone who owns a large cat who likes to scratch things, I can attest that it can be almost impossible to find an aesthetically pleasing cat post.
Plus, there’s plenty of food and pet toys:
I must say, they seem to offer the most comprehensive selection in the hood right now. I didn’t look at prices, but I’m sure I’ll be back to look more closely.

despite what some have been saying about this place (overpriced, rude help) i like it. i think their prices are very competitive, the one and only time i have been in there to buy something, the sales girl was most helpful, knowledgable and even held the door for me when i left. their selection is huge! kudos for a useful store opening in the hood!
It’s a cool store, I went in the day it opened. prices aren’t spectacular, so I didn’t buy anything. It’s nice to have around – a good looking shop that helps the area – but it’s not a place I think I’ll use regularly. For those with cars, K-9 Caterers up in Queens has prices that beat lots of online stores.
I’ve always gone to NYC Pet’s 5th Ave location for Okie’s food. Then Who’s Your Doggy(?)opened and I saw that they stocked Okie’s brand. How utterly convenient, thought I. However, they almost NEVER seem to restock that place. In my experience, WYD has virtually no interest in serving their customer’s needs. I’ve requested large bags over and over to no avail.
NYC Pet on Myrtle? Has ‘em, keeps ‘em in stock. Prices are competitive. The shopkeeper even opened a bag of treats for Okie, since he has food allergies and couldn’t accept what they had on offer. I’ll definitely be back; this is the kind of business ( well stocked, friendly and KEEPING REGULAR, POSTED HOURS) that CH needs and should welcome.
the prices at this new place seem good. I am waiting for them to get their Eukanuba cat food in stock since that is what my kitties like. I prefer to shop at whose your doggy since they are closer to my home, but they don’t carry many flavors of the Eukanuba and I like to switch it up some times. I think they said delivery is $1 if you buy more than 30$ worth. not bad!
Their prices seem to be the same as WYD and I found their customer service (specifically about Eukanuba products) lacking. I’ve never had a problem getting anything I requested specifically from WYD and I’m going to keep going there.
I would REALLY love it if one of the 3 pet stores in this neighborhood would carry Royal Canin products. I am very much surprised that no one carries this brand here?
ok so i went back today to see if they had gotten their eukanuba in stock and the guy working told me they had decided not to stock it because it had sugars, artificial flavors, and additives in it. I said my cats had been eating it for years and he asked “and nothing bad happened to them?” I left feeling scared for my cats health. I went over to WYD and bought some organic cat food stuff instead. Anyone else heard bad stuff about Eukanuba? I thought it was supposed to be the primo kitty food.
Comment #3 reads like a planted item from an NYC Pet employee. I have never had a problem ordering what I needed from Who’s Your Doggy, or with their hours. The sales staff there has been very helpful and customer service focused. Maybe they appreciate your suggestion to keep the product you like in stock, but prefer to order it on a case by case basis because there is not enough demand for it. I don’t know. I just don’t see any reason to bash them like that, and I certainly hope they do not suffer too much due to NYC Pet’s presence in the nabe. Who’s Your Doggy is good people.
Granted, some of the sales girls are completely clueless (albeit friendly), but the food selection at NYC Pet is fantastic! They carry the full line of Wellness brand foods, Natural Balance dog food in a roll, frozen food, all sorts of free-range, organic and meal-free foods. It’s funny, looking at my pantry in my apartment, my dog seems to be better stocked than me thanks to this place. They also deliver too. The toys are pretty good too.
Sorry, Rachel, but I have had repeated bad experiences with WYD regarding opening hours on weekends. Open hours are posted at 9am, and I have been there multiple times at 9am (coming back with the pooch from Ft Greene Park) waiting for them to open, once even until 9:30, to no avail. I still prefer Acme on Vandy in Prospect Heights, who also deliver.
Comment #7, I wouldn’t call it “bad” cat food, but just something to keep in mind is that commercial brands such as Eukanuba that contain sugars/additives/by-products aren’t the greatest for cats. Kitties are prone to food allergies, as well as diabetes caused by the added sugars. (FYI, I feed my kitties Evolve, which is one of the more reasonably priced natural pet food brands, from Loving Pet at Smith & Bergen).
Hi i don’t know what some people are talking about the employees being rude but today i went at like 4:30 tuesday jan 29 and there were 2 guys only working, and they were really helpfull they new what they were talking about.
One guy actually brong 3 40 lb dog food to my car 2 blocks away realy nice of him and helpfull, i would deff go back again there to buy, probally the girls didnt know what they was talking about but the 2 guys today did, but all the other stores are nice also like myrtle pet and WYD but this one is more organized. Shelves are always full and they have a large variety of good brands thx i recommend this place..
Depending on your area, you may have a dog food delivery service in your area. They will come by and deliver gourmet dog food, some of them organic, to your house each month. It saves time and the cost is about the same. I recommend them, no matter who you choose.
To JD,
If you are concerned about the food you should check out Whiskers in NYC. I was feeding my cats commercial food for years only to find out that it was causing some health problems. They are doing really well on their new diet. It’s worth checking out!
Sorry, that should have been directed to comment #7.

I’m always into discussions on anything organic, so this read made me feel at home.
I’ll bookmark the site and subscribe to the feed!
I prefer nycpetshed. Will not stock large cat litter bags
I asked them to order 30ib bags and they never did. Guess I’ll. Have to patronize nycpets on myrtle. Ave
Whose your doggie does not listen to it’s cutomers needs
Thought I would share a rather close-call experience with you all regarding the malfunction of a popular dog leash being sold at this pet store.
I bought two leashes (I can forward photos bc they won’t let me post here) a few months ago from “Whose Your Doggie” on Wiloughby. Recently, within a matter of two weeks, they disengaged from both of my dogs’ harnesses, setting them free. My girl dog got off the leash twice and my male dog, once. And twice it happened on Myrtle Avenue.
I would encourage you NOT to purchase this leash for the safety of your dog(s). Also, if anyone has had similar experiences, I would like to hear from you as I plan to write a complaint to the company.
I did inform “Whose Your Doggie” about the problem and to my surprise they did not offer me an exchange or a refund. They also did not seem very concerned. I, personally, will never shop there again.
Hopefully this is helpful to some. Pet stores should understand how concerned we are about our pets and be more proactive in not selling harmful products.
Lisa
CORRECTION; I thought this was for Who’s Your Doggie when I posted my complaint about them selling a defunct leash.
I have only had good experiences with the pet store NYC Pet profiled here.
