It looks like my prayers are finally about to be answered. While I know there are far more practical needs for the neighborhood (cheese shop, bookstore, etc), I’ve been pining for a really pretty flower / plant shop since moving to the neighborhood.
Today, I received word that Root Stock & Quade (who already have a well-established Park Slope outpost) will be opening a store on Myrtle in the old one-hour photo place next to Move With Grace (Myrtle near Hall)!!!!!! If this place is anything like Sprout Home in Williamsburg or GRDN in Boerum Hill, I am going to be one happy patron.
Looks like they also do garden design and event florals!

THAT is great news! I’m sure they’ll do a great business in CH – I know I’ll be there.
cheese shop = practical?
i was just thinking today i’d love to be able to buy flowers on my errands route on myrtle (not from a shopping cart on the sidewalk though)
What’s wrong with buying flowers from a shopping cart?
He’s got great prices.
This is great – although I have been to Root and it’s pretty darn pricey! Perhaps appropriate pricing for Park Slope residents but…please don’t bring those prices here!
To be fair, there is a nice, not-pricey plant shop across the street from La Pequena. It’s on the same street as Habana Outpost. The shop is cleverly made out of shipping containers. In the summer, they get a nice inventory in the back. Once, the nice owner even lent me his wheelbarrow so that I could take the plants I bought (ferns, azaleas, and perennials) home. It’s a cool place.
I’ve bought things there Carolina and it is quite nice although also quite far from this new store.
sounds like #6 is talking about Gardell’s Garden.
Its a great place.
I hope they have a lot of stock and it’s not too pricey. Potentially exciting news!
I LOVE Gardell’s too but am happy that the new place has the promise of some nice and higher quality cut flower options! And here’s to a book shop or cheese shop (practical or not!) opening in the hood soon too!
The fella with the shopping cart has a lot of stock and isn’t very pricey.
way back when i lived in what was then the no man’s land of 7th avenue (2001) i absolutely loved quade. i used to drool at their windows every day on my walk home from the train. i only bought flowers there once and they were kinda pricey but they were also gorgeous and lasted quite a long time. if i remember correctly though they had odd opening hours. seemed liked they did more event business than walk in stuff. maybe that’s changed in the ensuing years though.
Cheese shop on its way at Provisions, the gourmet shop sibling of Greene Grape. Ok, maybe not technically in Clinton Hill, but close. Bought some great salumi there, cheese should be showing up any day now.
