From Clintoncentric:
It takes so much more energy for me to cook in the wintertime. I’m bored by the fresh produce, too cold/lazy to trek to Fairway, and unless I spend my Sundays cooking for the week, I’m basically f*ed, and have to either make quick meals after work, or order take out. Problem is, there aren’t that many good options that I’m aware of. These are my favorites though:
Luz (718-246-4000), for their $10 rotisserie chicken — one of the best I’ve had! — with extra pepper sauces (they’ve got a green one and a reddish-orange one), black beans and rice.
Mojito’s (718-797-3100), for their chulettas, pernil, or churrasco chicken, smoky black beans and rice (with extra green sauce!)
Bombay Masala (718-230-7640), for classic anglo-saxon fare: Chicken Tikka Masala and the Mushroom Saag. Really, the best Indian take out in the hood in my opinion.
Yamashiro (718-230-3313), for their Jade Roll (like getting seaweed salad in a roll), Yellowtail roll, and their Wasabi Roll. Hubby always gets the Sashimi Deluxe. They’re generally fresh, and tastier, I think, than Sushi Okdol, though I haven’t given them enough play, I admit.
Sushi Okdol (718-789-1373), for their bi bim bop. They’re really more Korean than Japanese, and they give you tons of sides, like mushrooms, tofu and seaweed salad, for free when you order an entree.
Where does everyone else order from, and what do you get?

Kinara’s great for Indian. The chicken tikka masala is fantastic, as is the vindaloo.
I posted the other day about my new favorite hangover food – Bergen Bagels’ toasted monte cristo panini.
For sushi, I’ve usually gone with Sushi Tatsu. Try the Samurai Roll.
Focaccino’s a newish place on Bedford that has pretty interesting pizza and sandwiches. The goat cheese panini is pretty great.
I like Kinara’s for Indian as well. I tried Mojito’s when it first opened and it was pretty ehhhhh. Maybe I’ll try it again.
No! You must be kidding! I can’t speak for the sandwiches, but Focaccino has the worst pizza I have ever eaten…the only pizza in my life I’ve thrown away. The crust is awful, and the cheese is fake. I thought maybe it was unadvertised vegan but it’s just baaaad.
Yummy Yummy Chinese Restaurant on Myrtle. Its clean. You can get brown rice and tofu and vegetables and great chow fun. The food is healthy, not greasy, and has no MSG.
I worry about Mojitos…I once went there to eat and had a mouse scamper across the ledge right behind my head. It was unmistakably a mouse as my boyfriend was staring directly at said head. This prompted me to check their health department scores (which I swear I don’t do often) and let’s just say I’m steering clear from now on.
My take-out/delivery favorites are Luz for the rotisserie, Kinara for the amazing samosas and chicken tikka masala, Buff Patty (especially when I’m a bit low on cash), Mario’s on Dekalb for pizza/sandwich delivery, Kum Kau, and Maggie Brown’s when I need just a burger and fries. I tried delivery from Graziella’s once since I love the food and they advertise for delivery, but it was just a disaster.
I remember when Mojito’s jacked their prices by 50% overnight. I stopped ordering from them when they pulled that. Plus, their food isn’t particularly good. I order from Zaytoon’s regularly, I’m a big fan of their salad combo. Enchiladas in green sauce from Castro’s, salmon tempura rolls from One Greene ( I need to try Tatsu soon), what else…
I had no idea there was Indian delivery in the area, I will have to try Kinara. Also, I second Luz. Their rotisserie is amazing!
when did you have Focaccino’s pizza? we tried them when they first opened that weren’t too impressed, but then had them again a few weeks ago and it was pretty good.
I too like Yummy Yummy for delivery, a must for a Chinese restaurant. Kinara is alright also.
I like King Pizza for regular pies.
Gen for sushi delivery.
Not Ray’s on Fulton has the best pizza in the nabe in my opinion. The sauce actually have flavor unlike Mario’s.
Can’t beat Black Iris for quick, cheap, yummy middle eastern food.
Red Bamboo for inexpensive sandwiches.
Um, Barf-a-cinos. Yep, tried it twice..pizza not so good. Sandwiches are kinda bland.
As for Mojito’s, i like it. Every place has mice in NY so I try to overlook that.
One word…ZAYTOONS! So good, inexpensive, quick delivery and pleasant people. Kabobs, hummus, baba, pita salad. BLACK IRIS a close 2nd.
Other favs:
Bergen Bagel delivery/take out
Pequena delivery-enchiladas
Bonita delivery-fish burrito
Kum Kau-take out only but anything with e-z sauce is good
Golden Krust (Fulton) for patties good
Red Bamboo-bourbon “chicken” or anything is pretty good
Zaytoons, Sushi D, Castro’s, Bonita
i can’t believe no one has mentioned the 5 spot! great food, great prices, killer dessert, instant take out and delivery. plus the guys who work there are great and will often take a few dollars off your bill just because they recognize you.
bergen bagels
sushi tatsu [good lunch special]
zaytoon’s
myrtle/fulton thai [prefered over thai101]
maggie brown’s
choice market
if you live closer to fulton/atlantic, try Gen – on st marks + washington – for good japanese.
By the time I’m ordering, I have to pick up Graziella’s, but their pizza is fantastic.
Black Iris always gets the job done, too.
For the quality, Red Bamboo’s prices are pretty good.
I’m not a huge fan of everything on Rice’s menu, but they have really fast, competent take out. We also order from Black Iris, Sushi D, and a Chinese place I don’t remember the name of. (Bergen Garden, maybe?) I once ordered from Pequena and it was a disaster–took forever, food was cold, and they forgot to include the tortillas. I’ve also tried ordering from Cafe Lafayette and had a bad experience. We like Mario’s for pizza and occasionally baked ziti or spaghetti, too.
I like El Cofre on Myrtle and Washington for rotisserie chicken or roast pork with beans and rice.Mario’s for pizza ( the one on Dekalb, not Waverly),Yummy Yummy for Chinese,Buff Patty for West Indian.Anyone try White Lilly restaurant on Fulton and Grand? How is it?
Zaytoons falafel sandwiches!
Yamashiro salmon avacado and tuna rolls.
kinara samosas.
Malle (Manne? still not quite sure) noodle soup.
Dammit, now I’m hungry, especially since I’ve been trying to cut back on ordering out.
MYRLTE/FULTON THAI!!! It’s our absolute favorite. The food comes super fast, which is important when you are HUNGRY! Love the Massaman Curry, Pan Fried Spicy Noodles, and Ke-Mao. We’ve been ordering from there for over two years, and the quality, taste and delivery time has remained consistent.
I don’t particularly like Five Spot, the food gets soggy when its delivered. Some things just don’t travel well. We used to order from Bistro Lafayette on Franklin, but they take forever. The wraps are good, but the fries get really wet in the take-out box.
Amin has a tasty chicken briani.
Sushi D delivery is very quick.
I look forward to trying Kinara, because I’ve never even heard of it!
Also FYI, this post was about delivery -some of the places listed above do not deliver (i.e. Choice Market). Although I do LOVE Choice Market, best chocolate chip cookies EVER!!!
Zaytoons – Goat cheese pitza is the best pizza in the neighborhood
Little Louie’s – Great BBQ quicken pizza
Mannee Thai – Best of the Thai restaurants
Pequena – Sauted Fish Tacos and Cheese Enchiladas with Green sauce every time
Kinara’s – Tiki Masala!
Los Politos – Chicken Supertaco is AWESOME
Abistro – the best burger in history
Sushi D
Yummy Yummy (fastest delivery ever)
Pequena
Abistro for take out – cheap and yummy yet upscale feeling… plus i live right across the street, so you can’t beat that!
I have found that many places I call will not deliver to my little corner of the neighborhood. I am at Fulton/Atlantic & Grand. Places on Vanderbilt dont want to cross Atlantic (Amoria) and Myrtle places will not cross Fulton. Very frustrating. Sadly, I have noting to offer in the way of takeout suggestions.
I love Choice Market. Consistent quality even though some (not all) of the people who work there are as dumb as the day is long.
Abistro rocks! I’ve never done to-go from them, though. Will have to put them on my list.
Also, re: Amin. I found a hair ball the size of my cat in my food at the Brooklyn Heights location. They are permanently on my shit list.
Yes to ‘Not Rays’ on Fulton (we’re actually ordering a pie tonight) and are thrilled that they will deliver to Washington & Park.
Mojitos has great food and I am sure I would probably feel the same about not eating there if I saw an actual mouse but unfortunately I bet most of the mentioned places have mice and roaches but we’re just lucky enough not to see them. Bon Appetit!
Choice delivers now!!! Just thought everyone should know. Their Rotisserie is quite good too as is the veggie burger but get the sauce on the side. They have great veggie sides too.
I will have to try Luz’s chicken…the sauces sound delish.
For dessert, Choice has a flourless choc cake which is perfection…for those of you who like chocolate
Bonita – pork tacos, chopped salad, side of beans….nachos with pork for hangovers do the trick
luz is the best deal in the nabe. $10 for a whole chicken and it’s GOOD. add a side or two and you’ve got a really nice dinner for two for around $20.
thai 101 has decent prices and the portions are large enough to share. i like the pineapple fried rice as well as the pad thai.
zaytoon’s for middle eastern and grace’s for chinese.
i gotta say that i’m no longer ordering from mojito’s. last time i ordered the delivery guy made me come down to get my food, the portions were tiny and the food just wasn’t that good. plus they’ve gotten very expensive.
i have to also say that i like the menu at tamboril’s but haven’t had a chance to order from them yet. has anyone tried the takeout from there?
I agree with Bree, El Cofre at 454 Myrtle. I’ve been going there for years. Good home cookin Spanish food at a good price.Open 7 days 9am to Midnight.
Also Not Rays Pizza &…! No one mentioned Ruthies ! Beat Catfish as well as great other food.
A good resource is…

Enjoy !
Ruthies…meant to say BEST Catfish…not beat.
Sorry.
Some of these are Fort Greene and will not deliver to CH. Luz, Bonita come to mind.
Love the sashimi at Yamashiro, the chicken at Luz, and the pork tacos and nachos at Bonita… and I know Luz delivers to my farthest reach of Clinton Hill (Irving and Gates), so not sure where they wouldn’t deliver to in the neighborhood.
BrewPez..Bonita delivers to me in CH..Washington/Lafayette area…I am not sure what their boundaries are but you might want to check as I have had no problem
I’ve ordered pies twice from Not Ray’s and thought they were miserably bland both times. Sushi Tatsu gets my vote for sushi/sashimi. I enjoyed Sushi Okdol when I used to live up by Myrtle but haven’t really given them a call since moving further down toward Atlantic. I find Fulton Thai to be hit or miss on any given night but good for a cheap, fast order. Maggie Brown’s was excellent the one time that I had it delivered. I used to love the Five Spot for takeout but since I moved south, their delivery has been a dissapointment. Castro’s is just as good for delivery as they are for takeout. For vegetarian meals, I go with Red Bamboo or Vegetarian Palate. Palate may not be within delivery range of most CH-ers though.
for sushi – yamashiro. Best in the nabe. Not better than sharaku in NYC tho.
Thai – Mannee Thai – Portions are HUGE tho.
I agree with the above about Maggie Brown’s for a cheeseburger.
Middle Eastern – Zaytoons. So good and it’s dirt cheap.
Chinese – I like Kum Kau, but yummy yummy delivers so they get my vote.
Mexican – Bonita, tho the chicken is kind of weak.
I love love love the guava/cheese empanada’s from mojito and sometimes I get them to deliver me their mojitos, but i did notice they jacked the prices up which is LAME.
And I love bergen. They make THE best sandwiches.
I never had the chicken at Luz. I need to get on that.
OH! how can I forget – GRAZIELLA’s and all the yumminess at my favorite restaurant – il Torchio. God there tapas are so friggin good and they made me the best steak EVER – better than alot of fancy steakhouses – and the fish there!
Sometimes my fiance and I can’t escape our Long Island roots and we place an order to the domino’s on Atlantic and reminisce about wood paneling and stucco.

hey, did everyone see #73 on stuffwhitepeoplelike.wordpress.com ?
Wow – I never saw that website before. That is some disturbing, racist, shit.
I take it back – it’s pure genius.
We are @ Greene and Washington and Hunan Delight in Park Slope delivers to us. Their walnut shrimp is really, really good (among other things). Looking forward to checking out Yummy Yummy.
