A source told me yesterday that he is hoping to open a bakery on Fulton, right near the Met.
He reminisced, “When I was young, we’d go to the bakery every Sunday after church for a fresh loaf of French bread, soft and still warm from the oven. I’d love to recreate that here.”
So would we!
Tentative plans include a June opening.
OMGYAY!

Yes! Yes! And YES!!!
that would be so exciting! i keep smelling the bakery and st james and just wish i could pop in a buy a loaf!
sounds great. i request bagels as well.
for the love of god let it be true!
A bakery at that location will be very successful. There’s a ton of foot traffic and there are no options for fresh bread anywhere on Fulton.
Great news….hope it comes to fruition.
Anyone have the scoop on what’s going in down the way on Fulton & Greene/Hanson, directly opposite the Sushi joint? Major construction when I walked by yesterday afternoon.
as long as they add another thing where people put their cans and get change back – i’m down. those things are non-stop fun!
Defintiely welcome.
Sounds great- I’ll be there opening day! Good luck!
I bet they will have delicious baked goods.
That said, let us begin the countdown clock til the first complaints that it is an incompetent, overpriced, mediocre, or otherwise terrible business. I bet the first one comes in before it’s even open.
I’ve called many a local business incompetent, overpriced, and/or mediocre. Even a combination of the three. But never- NEVER- without an experience (often more than one) to back the claim.
I don’t understand why anyone would accept mediocrity. Because it’s LOCAL mediocrity? This is one of the greatest cities in the world and home to some of the world’s most ambitious and talented people – why settle for the bare minimum?
Maybe you’re having better experiences than I am, CB, but I don’t have impossibly high standards. Establishments in this neighborhood are often not open when they’re supposed to be according to their posted hours, out of things on the menu, serve food either cold or burnt, serve bad food, overcharge for their goods and services…why would you or ANY potential paying customer find this acceptable?
Fresh, hot baguettes and Plugra butter is what I will be dreaming of tonight
My previous comment was a general one in regards to the general gist of this blog’s comments pages, houseowax, not directly specifically at you. Because, believe it or not, sometimes it’s not about you.
CB everyone knows this blogs posts are not “about you” BUT the comments are. Everyone has a right to comment on this blog be it the good, the bad and the ugly. I’m tired of reading comments like yours over and over again. If you don’t like people honest opinions of service, prices, etc then how about comment on a good experience you’ve had rather than the negative ones you’ve posted above before anyone even said a bad word.

JD – you’re still here? I thought you promised to leave this forum.
I knew the comments weren’t about me specifically, but I’ve been accused in the past of being too hard on local businesses. I have in the past commented on this blog and mentioned that local businesses seem to generally under-perform and I’ve been lambasted for it.
Sorry I have to agree with CB
I was thinking the exact same comment but didnt post it. Let’s sit back & wait for the negative commentators.
I do notice that the cultural or community postings on this blog generate very few to no commnets
But a posting about a new store, well that seems to generate the equivalent of a blog shark feeding frenzy
A good way for them to have a regular outlet for their baked goods would be to work something out with Outpost, Frank White, and the other coffee shops in the neighborhood who could all use an upgrade in that department. They could probably make it cheaper than everybody buying from overrated, overpriced Balthazar. I know outpost already buys their wines locally from Olivino.
Evan, if you know it as a fact that Outpost buys its wine from Olivino, do not advertise it. It is not legal for a restaurant/ bar business to buy alcoholic beverages from stores etc other than the wine/beer companies. In fact Outpost could jeopardize its liqour license if it is caught doing so. Cafe Lafayette got caught for similar offense. There is a reason behind that so coveted Liqour License!
gobackplease – I won’t leave – I enjoy tormenting you with my presence. It’s a tough world out there, your going to run into ALOT of people who have ALOT of DIFFERENT opinions than your own. If your getting bent out of shape over things that are said on A MESSAGE BOARD, then best of luck to you. Stay off the crack and always pay your bills
The establishment rumored to be going in on Fulton and Greene is supposedly a Starbucks.
An unheralded little bakery has opened up on Vanderbilt near Myrtle, at the old Frosted Moon Emporium gift shop, run by a lady named Adrienne. There’s some dispute about the name, so I won’t confuse you by mentioning it. Just go and try it. Warning: She doesn’t have bread–yet.
I visited that bakery and wasnt disappointed. She is a little off the beaten path but hope things pick up for her because I need my fix of peach cobbler, red velvet cake, bread pudding and cookies.
A bakery could do well on Fulton. Tons of foot traffic. I’m with Houseowax though: it will need to be good. Any idea when we can expect this place?
