I have received word from TWO different sources that Grand 275 (located at 275 Grands, obvs) is closing.
Fear not — it doesn’t seem to be an issue with poor business or rent increases, but more that the owners are ready to do something new (hopefully in the same space?).
Apparently these last few nights have been packed. The final night of operation will be Friday. Get your drink on, one last time, at this super comfortable, friendly spot.

This makes me so sad. We live down the block and it’s our favorite place in the nabe for a beer. The music is always great, the bartenders are nice and the crowd is fun. I wish them luck in their new venture and hope they stay nearby.
(Shakes fist like Darth Vader) NOOOOOO!
Nooooooooooooooo!!!!
I love that place! I’ve made it a point to go there for breakfast on the weekends (people in line at Choice were crazy not to check out this lovely cafe) and although I haven’t gone there much at night, I will still miss it!
I hope they do something in the same spot. That area really doesn’t have a lot going for it, so it’s super sad that one of the (only) places is closing it’s doors.
All the luck to them though. They were always super friendly and I am sure whatever they do next, it will be cool.
oh no! i really hope their new venture’s in the same spot, or the neighborhood at least. lots of changes on this stretch of grand… any word on the corner of grand and clifton?
Brownstoner seems to be blaming “dodgy” folks across the street at the new Mirrors bar for this. Huh? Do we need to involve the 88th here?
I don’t think they are going to do anything there. I saw Marc giving out his landlord’s name to someone today. So what do we think would be good to have there?
i live down the street and know marc and carmen really well…they are just looking to do something else…they’ve done well but it’s hard work… Hopefully someone else will take it over and open another cafe.
Yeah and brownstoner has since delted the post..too late the damage has been done…the man has thousands of readers and marginalized and made damaging, defamatory accusations to someone’s business/livelyhood with no basis.

I just want to put here what I have put elsewhere. Mark and Carmen created a unique spot. When I wandered in 4 years ago with my young son, I had no idea that I was walking into such a welcoming and yet provocative spot. It has been a gathering place for the artistic, the queer, and the Afro-centric in the neighborhood. Mark and Carmen treated everyone who walked in the door with respect (okay Mark gave me some sh-t sometimes!). Their staff was similarly engaging, and combined great looks with rapier minds. Thanks a lot guys.
P.S. Jon of Brownstoners was wrong to defame another establishment when he reported the closing of Grand 275. Myself and many others demanded that he retract his racist and inaccurate accusations. Which he did. That said, can we just honor Grand here and not focus on the negative?
