Took this sad shot a week or so ago.
BUT — I have two reports from readers that the sign now says it will be home to Luigi’s Pizza. An offshoot or relocation for the pizza place on DeKalb near Pratt? Or a different Luigi?
(formerly 275 Grand)

I certainly hope its not an offshoot Luigi’s is at best mediocre.
It will be an offshoot — they have a review of the other Luigi’s in the window.
@ Kyle: Luigi’s is great! What’s not to like?
Kyle–you are out of your mind. Luigi’s is one of the best slices in Brooklyn.
Luigi’s on Dekalb? meh
My bad. I’m talking about the place further up the block.
Luigi’s is good but limited. “(formerly 275 Grand)” It’s still 275 Grand. Good to see they are branching out after all these years.
The place up the street is Marios, not Luigis haha.
A few years back, there was a call-in on NPR for “hidden treasures” and someone called in to plug Luigi’s. I’d never been, so I walked down the block to give it a try. It was alright, but I don’t know what the fuss was about. It’s pizza. That said, I’ll be glad to have it here.
What I want to know is, exactly what the heck is going on in that place on the corner of Grand and Clifton? They’ve been doing a lot of work in there and the windows have been covered with big portraits of people I feel I should recognize (Frederick Douglass is one, maybe?)
Luigi’s is known for their SICILIAN slices (the square ones), which are friggin’ amazing. The regular slices are OK, too, but not nearly as good. Even if you don’t like Sicilian-style pizza (I usually don’t) give it a try. Great stuff.
I hear the place on Grand and Clifton is going to be a book store. It would be a great addition to the neighborhood if they mix it up a little bit — especially if they serve a quick, good cup of coffee so folks can skip the line at Choice if that’s all they need.
I’m skeptical about the chances of a bookstore surviving in that location, but you’re right … it’d be a great idea for them to also have a coffee counter. I like Choice, but I never want to stand in line for 30 min for a simple cup of joe!
