Received two emails from readers regarding an intriguing building on Atlantic Ave. This is one of them-
On my way to JFK yesterday, driving up Atlantic Avenue, I saw a red building called Choice Atlantic, which seemed to be a coffee shop/bakery. Is this the same people as Choice and Choice Green? It was somewhere around the Bedford or Nostrand intersections.
Could it be? I checked it out yesterday afternoon. Sure enough, there’s a large, red building on the north side of Atlantic just west of Classon. I came up on artist Aimee Leigh German painting the signage on the outside of the building.
It IS a new Choice location, and is slated to open in a few weeks. Aimee told me the Atlantic location will be more focused on catering and baking (and some of the current cooking will move from the Grand location here, which is great, because does that mean there will be more seating at Grand??), but will still have a walk-in eatery.
Wow. What will Atlantic Ave look like in one year? In five?

but is there an update on the choice on greene?
very exciting
Please. In this market everything’s going to be reeaaaaal sloowww for a while. Good thing, too.
i heard they are also opening a fourth outpost in dumbo – does anyone know if there’s truth to that rumor?
it’s amazing that they are expanding so quickly, but i guess if they are dividing the different programs, maybe the original location – and the new – will run better… here’s hoping.
Allegedly they are opening a location in J Condos in Dumbo similar to the one on Grand.
By the way, anyone try the new bakery at 1015 Fulton bet Grand and Downing. Awesome breads and pastries.
Great for atlantic and choice, a new bakery just opened on fulton btwn Grand and Downing, its easy to miss. I picked up some very tasty bread yesterday.
Great to see them finally getting closer to opening.
The new bakery on Fulton is great as well. I’ve had several pasteries etc. and the owners are very nice and the baked goods were fantastic – v. high quality.
pasteries? lol, I better do a spell check next time!
Yes, the ingredients are real not imitation. Real essence, butter, not margarine.Good flavors.Killer on the waistline but worth it for a treat every now and then. A friend of mine came from Williamsburg to get some pastries and didnt even stop by in her haste to get home, get her coffee and get to eating her pastries while reading her book. lol!
does anyone know when Choice Green will open?
I walk by Choice Greene every day, and it hasn’t made any visible progress inside for over a month. But it looks really close. My uneducated guess is that the credit climate is postponing it.
By the way, 4 out of the last 5 times I’ve been to Choice on Grand they have messed up my order. I won’t go into every time, but I’ve come to realize it isn’t just random mistakes, but more of a general lack of good service. Great tasting food doesn’t make up for overpriced bad service when there are so many great restaurants in the area.
By the way, has anyone been in the Pioneer since they’ve been remodeling? It’s looking amazing. Can’t wait for them to finish.
The one and only time I went to Choice Grand was this summer. It was a warm but not excessively hot day. Not only were they out of iced tea like I had hoped to order but they were out of ice and in no hurry to even run to a bodega and grab some bags. It was the middle of the day too so it wasn’t like they were like “oh we’re closing soon so the lack of iced coffee and tea sales won’t hurt”. They’re utter lack of understanding of why I was annoyed that during the summer iced drinks were not available has turned me off of this place.
