I was just checking some email when I heard a slew of sirens scream past my building. A few moments later, I received this email from a reader:
We were just trying to walk to the laundromat, but couldn’t because it appears that a building on the north side of Myrtle between Ryerson and Hall collapsed and there was rubble across the sidewalk. Not sure if this was caused by an explosion or what, or if it was an accident or intentional, but a pretty crazy sight. Hope no one was inside the building when it came down and that no one was hurt.
I may head out to check it out now. If anyone has any info, please leave it in the comments!

Yeah, pretty sure it was the building that houses “Vesper.” Sign is on the ground. I have pictures from my phone. Is there a way to upload?

Just had to push my way through the police tape to get home.
There’s an incredible amount of construction going on in this area, and the building I currently occupy, literally around the corner, (Ryerson Street), has been shaking consistently since I moved in two years ago. Yes, I’m terrified, but the price is right.
While I’m reassured that the Department of Housing or whoever AT LEAST cited damage to 495 Myrtle months ago, what about the rest of us living in the neighborhood? Aren’t we at risk too? Between the constant stress that heavy traffic on the BQE imposes on our houses, as well as the ongoing construction at at least three sites within a block radius (Myrtle and Waverly) we should have more info on the damage to buildings in the neighborhood.
After all, our houses are all a hundred plus years old. This seemed bound to happen at some point.
If anyone else in the neighborhood, especially on Ryerson, has experienced the same sort of shaking and trembling I have, I’d love to hear about it.
