The intersection of Grand, Fulton and Putnam creates a small triangle with a fenced in NYC Greenspace. I saw a few flowers amongst the overgrowth recently, but does anyone keep it up?

Has anyone ever tried to program that little space, open up the fenced in area or put some benches out? The sidewalk (which looks great – was it redone during the Fulton repaving?) is plenty wide enough for seating. With all of the restaurants nearby (Kush, Michael Sllen, Brown Betty, Samantha’s Southern Cuisine), it might be a nice place to grab some food to go and sit outside.

Thought the same myself. Worth a 311 call. It’s sort of unpleasant with the traffic.
this looks pretty new to me… i’m pretty certain it was paved/planted with the latest round of Fulton road construction. seating would be a nice addition to this location.
The planting is not new but they redid the sidewalk.
There used to be a triagular shaped building here years ago. I’ll try to did up a picture and send a link. Our own mini flatiron building.
this is a notorious crime spot. a bigger planting area would be great. benches? not so much. but since city just repaved it it’s hard to imagine the funds. community board and/or Lelita James better outlets to chase for development than 311.
the new BID will find funding to redevelop the putnam triangle.
As was noted above, there used to be a three (four?)story building on that triangle. As a kid coming home on the bus I would see an elderly woman who lived there sitting outside on her folding chair surveying the fulton/putman intersection from the point of the building every day. The city moved everyone out, demolished the building and created this lovely overgrown weed garden.
This is what passes for progress in Brooklyn now…
I live on Putnam and yes, that was recently repaved. It would be nice if they expanded the Greenstreet planting as it’s mostly all concrete sidewalk.
How long ago was the building demolished?
A larger planting space would be nice. If you put benches there you will soon find grand ave crack heads sleeping on them.
Here is a picture of the building in question. Pretty cool stuff on this site.

That’s it. You can purchase pictures from the NY public library archives too – and search then online. I found one there of this intersection with the building.
Lets not develop this area as a park. I live on Putnam there and this corner is riddled with crime and people “hanging out” all day long. There doesn’t need to be more opportunity for that activity. The 88th is either unable or unwilling to keep this area under control.
That old picture is amazing! I think it would be a great idea to have a commercial/ residential building there. It might even improve the block!
I’m an architecture student and the we have a new project in brooklyn, mostly parks and greenspace, the city wants to make the parks better and more use by the people, our whole project is to make more space for the pedestrians by adding street furniture and other ideas so that people enjoy parks like the putnam triangle. If the city likes our design they will incorporate this into this greenspace, so for those who thinks we should make this space better we will and wish us luck….
