A tipster recently emailed me to ask what happened to Embora, the yoga-dance studio on Fulton near Washington. Sure enough, it is closed. The sign is still up, but the interior is empty. No explanation, no nothing. Embora moved to the neighborhood around the same time I did, coming up on six years. Their website is still up, but their phone number has been “temporarily disconnected.”
A comment on Yelp from September 15 laments their closure. Wish they had something up on their site!
Anyone know any specifics?

My wife noticed the same thing last weekend and lamented the loss.
They closed for Labor Day weekend and just never reopened. I heard they had been having financial problems for a while.
There is so much retail space on that stretch of Futlon! Please lower the rents so businesses can actually move in. I’m afraid that landlords have set rents unrealistically high so they’ll sit vacant.

You know, you don’t need to be a “yuppie” to go to school, get an education, get a bank loan and open up your own business.
It takes will, foresight, a belief in yourself and a don’t fear attitude.
Just because “yuppies” don’t open another barber shop or hair salon on the same block with 5 others, doesn’t mean its easier for them. Especially in this recession.
