Last week, I noticed that the space formerly occupied by the Healthy Body vitamin shop (478 Myrtle) has been transformed into a bike shop! I remember the space was once a makeshift bike shop and repair outfit, and now it seems to be back.
The folks at the Myrtle Ave Partnership confirmed that it’s the same operator as before (and the owner of the building). No word yet on whether the shop is temporary or permanent.

just like before, just like when it was a “holistic” place, these guys are running a front for something. no matter whether it’s a “bike” shop or when it was the “holistic” place, who would shop in an establishment with a bunch of gruff, constantly smoking russians who couldn’t be any less pleasant to be around. they are up to something and it’s not fixing bikes!
I spent a good hour in there a few weeks ago, and I can assure you that it is a legitimate bike shop. The owner, whose name is Grigory and is a Lithuanian-Jewish immigrant, loves talking about his business, and gave me a tour of the entire building. Among the things he showed me was a photo album that included pictures of him building, repairing, and riding bikes that date back as far as forty years. He may seem stand-offish, but he is a very warm man, and he fixed up my bike quickly and for less money than some of the other shops in the neighborhood. I think they opened up in the last week of October. It’s worth it to check out their inventory–my roommate bought a vintage russian military bicycle from him.
I’m with Frank. It’s a sketchy place.
even if this was the last bike shop in NYC, I still would not go there again. Ever heard the expression “you pay in other ways”? Well, you will understand what it means once you have your bike repaired there.
The owner, whose name is Grigory and is a Lithuanian-Jewish immigrant, loves talking about his business, however it never goes beyond talking. Actually I would not even call it business. Simply put, Grigory is an uneducated and uncultured man who thinks that being nice to a customer is only important before the sale. Last time I visited the store he literary ordered me to leave and never come back. I will never be back again and this store is not getting any business from any of my friends.
