This just in from a reader:
There was a shooting (another one!) on monroe street between franklin and classon. The cops are all over the street. There’s a helicopter looking for suspects?
Does anyone know about this? I think a child or teenager was killed.
Anyone have any info?

Don’t know whatsup but that helicopter has been circling outside my window for over an hour. Hope they nail those animals.
on gothamist it says homicide. that’s all that i can find.
The chopper is gone, but I don’t know what happened. Nothing on the local news websites either.
Gothamist has a homicide and a shooting at two different spots on Classon. I live right in the middle of it all and, well, there was definitely someone in my building related to the shooting. Police has been in the building for at least an hour, there’s a ton of noise and some really weird buzzing happening. Along with the copters.
I’ll be honest, most of the time I feel safe in the hood, but tonight has sort of shaken me up.
sorry, i looked again, it was two different spots on monroe, at classon and franklin. i live smackdab in between the two places, basically.
Definitely a dead guy in the building on Monroe but the police also have Madison blocked off.
Wonder if this is connected to the Clifton Place shooting?
Huh? I live at Monroe and Classon and was home and did not hear a thing. So not sure about that last account but the tape definitely starts as you get to the middle of Monroe.
There is ALWAYS something going on at Monroe!
the shooter is on the loose in the backyards of monroe between madison and monroe, between franklin and classon. the cops just told my roommate and i as we were walking our dog…we live on madison between franklin/bedford.
the shooter is ‘still’ on the loose so close by after all those cops & helicopters?? why have they gone away. jesus.
Here’s the story from the Times. The helicopter was freaking my husband out. This is some scary sh*t.

Man Killed on Monroe Street
By ANDY NEWMAN
A 35-year-old man was fatally shot Monday night inside 20 Monroe Street, between Classon and Franklin, in what appeared to be a drug-related murder, the police said. It was the second murder in two days within five blocks. The man, Montel McDonald, was shot in the chest in the hallway of the building around 8:15 p.m. and staggered back to his apartment, where he collapsed and died, the police said.
A police spokesman said that “quite a bit of drug product was found leading from where he was shot back to his apartment” and added that Mr. McDonald had several prior arrests. The spokesman said no one had been arrested in the shooting and offered no further details. Twenty Monroe, in the 79th Precinct, is five blocks south of where Audrey Johnson was killed on Sunday night.
Yeah it really changes your prospective of the “Clinton Hill/Bed Sty” border when a helicopter is shining a spotlight into your window and cops are banging on your door to see if the gunman is in your building. Maybe I’ve only lived in this hood for the better half of a year, but i’m hearing about shootings every other week. Then I get people telling me that I wouldnt’ be able to afford the rent if not for the aid of my parents. For one, they’re not helping me. I’m broke and in need of a steady job. Secondly, I’m doing you a favor by moving in. Would you rather a guy move in and kill your nephew or a guy move in and pay his rent on time?
I live on Monroe near the corner of Classon Ave. I heard two gunshots go of around 8:30 and then a car speeding away. I looked out the window and saw nothing, but then tons of police sirens and a helicopter showed up. This is scary stuff man…i live right here!! The shooter could have been in my backyard!
classon@monroe, you seem like a real douchebag. who cares about your being broke? (At least) two people died in our hood within the past two days. Get over your little complex or go move to the upper west side where nobody will hurt your feelings by accusing you of getting subsidized by your parents.
From what I read here it seems they didn’t catch the shooter. This is scary. Not long ago there was a big drug bust in the Putnam/Grand area and from the mug shots, I recognized several people from the neighborhood. Obviously they weren’t the only ones, and demand I guess is also high enough to make it seem lucrative, but obviously dangerous as well, and not just for the guy who got shot. Any of us might have been accidentally in the way. We were out walking our dog between 8:00 and 8:30.
I sometimes wonder if the solution lies in a process that would legalize and control the sale of drugs. Though still not safe (please surrender your car keys first!) it seems that we are incapable of stemming the demand and it might be easier to control if it was taxed and regulated. Just say no? What kind of an effort was that?

Nice..Such enlightening News! Not good for the ongoing crime cover-up in the hood when you make the Times.. Clinton Hills is being overun by the drug deals because the vice squad has been pounding Ft. Greene, HELLO! They’re NOW in your backyards…Semll the roses! Isn’t it about time for someone to raise the roof on this crap! 20 deaths last year, we’ll crack that stat easily next year at this pace! I guess we all need to go out and buy a gun to protect ourselves; maybe we should stop giving our ipods and car keys, and personally start putting an end to this bullcrap!

Best source for info.
Vincent: Carrie Audrey Johnson aside, I’m pretty sure no one cares when a gun slinging drug dealer is kilt. The only thing we’re worried about is us or our children being in the line of fire.
