The retail space on the ground floor of the Absolute on Myrtle is mighty large. A source told me that a gym might be interested in the space.
Thoughts? Do you want a chain gym, or a local gym?
Personally, I’m cool with the Bed-Stuy Y, although it’s become about 100xs more crowded this year. And I’m not surprised, given the affordable pricing and the nice facilities (although I do wish they would separate the cardio machines from the weight machines, which are cramped in so tightly that it’s hard to move around when people are using the machines!).
I hope it’s not a NYSC, which I found to be way overpriced (at least last time I was a member). It would be nice to have an option closer than the Y or the Crunch (which I hear is also super crowded).

YES please!!! I’d be fine with whatever as long it has treadmills, windows and weights. It would be great to have a gym on myrtle!
a Crunch would be perfect there. i go to the one near BAM and it seriously lacks both space and equipment. a larger space would definitely cure that.
Yes Please!
Robin, nice to meet you on Saturday doing the rounds.
A gym would be great. I am a member of NYSC and have to work out in the city at the moment, when I can. I haven’t had time since we moved to CH to look at switching my membership – although I was thinking along the lines of the Y. At any rate, whatever gym moves into that space would potentially take away some of the crowding at the other ones in the area, especially as they are likely to competitively price themselves for the first few months or so to try and draw customers.
a gym would we wonderful! preferably something local and less expensive- maybe even with trainers that set up a work out routine for you?
Planet Fitness is opening a new site on 249 Duffield St (Downtown Brooklyn). They seem to have a good pre-opening sale online, but u know there always seems to be an expensive “catch” soon thereafter!
yes! please! a gym!!!!! it’d be great if it was a local gym…but, if it’s going to be a chain, i hope it isn’t Bally’s.
I don’t really care whether it’s a chain or local, as long as it’s clean and affordable!
Crunch please.
I on the other hand would love a NYSC since I am member and the closest one is in Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill. I want one in the area desperately! This is one rumor I REALLY hope is true.
I am a NYSC member and would love to have one in the neighborhood!!
am i the only one who thinks this location is a little remote for a chain gym? i mean, hardly any access to public transportation!
i think an nysc would do well in the ground floor of the forte building; give crunch some competition.
You people should check out the gym at Pratt Institute.
They’ve dramatically improved their equipment recently. A community membership is $430/year or $290 for 6 months.
Check it out.
Crunch please!!!
a 24hr fitness would be nice. I love the one in Soho!
@limestonekid are you sure you don’t have to be a student to use the pratt gym? i can’t find any info on it.
