A few readers have emailed asking if Kif restaurant on DeKalb is closed. Apparently, it’s been shuttered for two weeks. I did a walk-by on Monday and saw people having beers at the bar, but when I called later no one answered the phone. There are no signs on the door that point to a closure. What gives?
Kif has the most gorgeous back yard area, so I am hoping they’re just on vacation.

I wouldn’t be surprise..While the food is great…the massive rats which run around the back are not…Talk about losing ur appetite…hopefully they are exterminating!
I wanted Kif to be so much better than it was the one and only time I tried it. The owner was so nice and welcoming but the scallops in my bouillabase were rotten. And the rest of the food was so salty it went pretty much untouched. Lively and fun place, but terrible food.
I still miss Liquors, the place that proceeded it.
When Liquors first opened it was amazing. I might I even say the best restaurant in the neighborhood at the time. By the time it closed, though, the quality and service had gone downhill so terribly I was relieved when they finally pulled the plug.
The food at Kif is terrible! I’m not surprised there’s rats. This place should shut down.
I’ve had two really wonderful experiences at Kif! The atmosphere is so warm and inviting and the food (especially the chouchouka) is amazing. Please don’t shut down!
Kif used to be awesome, now it’s just OK. I’ve never seen a rat but wake up people, all restaurants have rats, whether you see them or not.
I miss liquors, too.
I have always had great food and a really nice time at Kif. I never saw rats in the garden and totally dig the tent-like back extension and the way they built in all of the benches and tables and things in the backyard. I would be super bummed if they closed!

it is such a beautiful space…if our food hadn’t taken over two hours to arrive (with no apologies!) we might have returned…

Old Loulou space will be a new Italian restaurant. Yes, yet another new Italian restaurant.
Kif is NOT closed. The owner told me he was taking a couple of weeks off. (Might have been a good idea to post a sign, right?) Also, I don’t know what the complainers, above, are talking about—I have only had really nice meals here. The soups and tagines are especially great. The vibes is warm and friendly. The decor is homey and sweet. Moroccan food is lovely.
Kif seems to be closed now in June 2010. The website is inactive also.
