The new restaurant that’s taken the place of LouLou – Dino – is now open, and last night I checked it out with Kath Hansen of PUPS.
I had only been to LouLou a few times, but Kath remarked on the “great reno job” on the inside.
The back yard was small and cute, clean and simple.
The bread had one of the most delicious dipping bowls I have ever encountered. The olive oil was enhanced with mashed olives, along with tiny pieces of orange rind for extra flavor.
Kath had the chicken, as she says “you can judge a restaurant by its chicken.” She gave it two thumbs up, for both quality and portion size (she took half of it home with her).
I had the rigatoni, also delicious and a generous portion.
And the icing on the cake: the staff overheard Kath mention that she was taking me out for my birthday and they brought me a gigantic piece of tiramisu on the house.
Service was wonderful- friendly and helpful staff, a great sounding selection of seasonal cocktails (we opted for the rose, which was crisp and great for summer — but we think this place would be worth stopping in to for a fancy drink!), they already have liquor license and take credit cards (which is not so common for new restaurants in this neck of the woods). Pricing was “around the same as LouLou,” per Kath, but “better than LouLou.” Simply put from me: delicious food, great staff, and they have their sh*t together.
(Sorry, I didn’t have my nice camera with me!)

I’m so glad you did a post for Dino! My husband and I went for dinner a few nights ago and we were so happy. Great food, reasonable prices and nice portions. Loved the zucchini soup and the rigatoni pasta. Everything was well seasoned, the staff was friendly, and our experience was overall very pleasant. Will definitely return soon!
We’ve been twice already and love it. Loulou was our neighborhood spot and I’m really happy that the space is home to another restaurant that has good food, reasonable prices, and nice owners. I wish Dino lots of success.
I have heard from a few people who’s opinion on food I trust that it was just OK. I was told the Squid in pasta was served with a tomato sauce so you lose the flavor of the squid ink pasta. The were another dish I was told that Ravioli with fresh lemon and parm was just sitting in tons of butter. I have seen the menu and it looks tasty. I will have to give it a try cause there is nothing more that I like then a good neighborhood restaurant. I miss Lou Lou that spot was great and their food was consistently good. The new spots interior I hear is amazing and will try it out soon and I hope to have a better review and hope that my friends just had a rare unfortunate evening there. I look forward to posting something this weekend.
food was good. service was too cool for school. cold and not exactly friendly.
Dino has a great atmosphere but the food is just plain awful! Just recently had pasta that was really really soggy, shocking for an Italian place! We returned the pasta and requested al dente, but they looked at us like we had 6 heads – then brought back the same plates 3 minutes later – microwaved – and passed it off as newly made. yuk!
My date had the trout that was like rubber – she said you could throw it on the wall and it would bounce right back at you. Not to mention that the $35 bottle of red was way too sweet and gave our whole table of 4 a headache for the entire evening.
This is the worst restaurant in the neighborhood for food. There are too many great restaurants on that block alone that cater to Brooklyn foodies. No need to give this place any consideration when you have ICI, Kif and Oscar that all have passed the test of time & quality.
Given how picky Fort Green eaters are, I’d be shocked if Dino is still there next year.
